Creating a Healthy Subculture: Healthy Friends, Healthy Community, Healthy Life In every town, every school, every workplace, and every spiritual community, there are two cultures operating at the same time: the dominant culture —what’s normal, expected, or modeled the subculture —the smaller, intentional group choosing a healthier way of living Most people follow the dominant culture without thinking. But the people who thrive—emotionally, physically, spiritually—are the ones who create or join a healthy subculture . That’s the heart of the Healthy Arts Project: to build a bright, positive, joyful subculture where health, creativity, friendship, and purpose become the norm. 1. What Is a Healthy Subculture? A healthy subculture is a group of people intentionally choosing habits, values, and activities that support well-being. It’s a community where it’s: normal to care about health normal to move, create, and express normal to treat people with respect ...

CYCLOGY SESSION: Two Wheels, One Mind

Image
CYCLOGY SESSION: Two Wheels, One Mind Sometimes the best therapy session doesn’t take place in an office—it happens on a bicycle. This morning I went for a quick eight-mile ride, and what unfolded was more than just movement. It was a session in  CYCLOGY —the psychology of healing through cycling. The moment my wheels touched the path, I felt the world shift. I passed traffic effortlessly on a dedicated bike trail, dodging the stress of honking horns and red lights. There’s a unique joy in realizing that your body is your engine, your breath your fuel, and your surroundings your scenery—not a screen or dashboard. The air was crisp. The sun, warm. Trees lined the way like old friends waving as I passed. I nodded at fellow riders and walkers—smiles exchanged like small doses of medicine. There's an unspoken camaraderie out there. We’re all moving forward, in our own rhythms, breathing deeper than we do behind a windshield. I arrived right at the door of my destination, no need...

Snorkeling: The Ultimate Healing Exercise for Body and Soul

Snorkeling: The Ultimate Healing Exercise for Body and Soul Snorkeling is one of my all-time favorite forms of exercise — not just for the physical benefits, but for the way it completely refreshes the mind and spirit. Unlike high-impact activities, snorkeling offers a gentle, flowing movement through water that decompresses the spine and joints, relieving the stress of gravity with every float and glide. The ocean itself is a healing space. Immersing the body in mineral-rich saltwater helps with hydration on a cellular level and promotes skin health and circulation. Breathing through a snorkel also naturally encourages  deep, rhythmic breathing , engaging the diaphragm and strengthening lung capacity while calming the nervous system. As you move through the water, your core, legs, arms, and shoulders all work together in harmony. The motion is meditative and toning without strain — a true full-body workout that feels effortless. And then there’s the magic:  the underwa...
